I wanted the faux beams to be suspended and not run along the ceiling since it was going to be impossible to do that because of the way the ceiling lines were.
It gives the illusion that the mantel is a solid piece of wood.
This board will not be seen.
Basically you remove the backing and place the adhesive side onto the end of the mantel.

I wanted them to float from one side of the wall to the other.
