The third switch postion is where both sets of lights turn of at the same time. 2 one wire for the first light s to be turned on red wire 3 one wire for the next light s to turn on blue wire. In this wiring the source is at the switch and 3 wire cable runs from there to the fan and light. The fan has power when the switch is on while the fan speed and the light if the fan has one are controlled by pull chains on the fan itself or by a remote control device.

Turn the power back on and test the fan. Connect the lighting wire typically blue to the black fan wire and the black ceiling wire. Wiring a fan and light to a single switch. Connect white wires together.

It is best to verify the wires using a continuity tester. With double switch wiring a fan with a light is connected to a double wall switch that controls power to the fan and the light separately. Connect the green copper wires together. The source neutral and ground are spliced through to the fan location.
